1988 JDM CA18ET turbo RX

Post by presil »

Hello everyone,

managed to buy without seeing personally this s12 jdm imported rx turbo from perth, i live in victoria, but had a mate who mediated the deal. i did joke with the s12 facebook crew that it had been crushed but Daga exposed the truth.

money exchanged and 5 days train freight later...

the underneath of the car was in remarkable condition.

rare silvia window decals.

the car was located near a beach in perth, which made it prone to surface rust as shown.

one super rare silvia front badge. check.

plans are to treat the rust immediately, get this car into vic rego, restore it to its former glory. all stickers and badges will be reproduced to the same spec.

i've already serviced it, the motor is in amazing condition with only a rocker cover gasket leak, starter motor was replaced, ca20 is the same for the ca18et.

i will update everyone when i get a chance.

but for now enjoy. :)

Very nice mate, good to see someone got their hands on this and is putting in the effort to bring it back to its former glory! It looks like the interior and engine are in good condition, so that makes things easier.

Not many JDM MKII's in the country, you sure have a rare one there. Not sure I've seen another Turbo RX around here before either.

Look forward to seeing how this one comes along!

Nice!

It'll look fantastic once it's had a good tidy-up.

We tidied up the front end the other day and started to sand back all the surface rust. It looks allot nicer.

cheers all.
according to wiki, it came with a T2 turbocharger. it is very unspecific. so im not sure, i thought it was a t20, but davis thinks its a t25.

gotta thank daga/davis for finding the car, he is resourceful, when daga searches for s12 parts on google, he always clicks "im feeling lucky". and always gets what he wants.. lol

me and davis went to check a gazelle that was being parted out. big thanks to stephen tsonas for wasting his mid day. we did salvage some parts that will help the s12.

we got to work, and when i say WE i mean mainly davis. replaced the starter motor, put the windscreen wipers from the parted out gazelle. and began preparation for roadworthy for victoria, by getting rid of some surface rust.

Davis getting his work on:

i had the original colour made up from auto barn. it cost $30 bucks for 400g spray can. After some sanding, rust converter and painting...

and TADAAAAA, already looks new again... well sort of:

next on the list is :
  • speedo cable replacement/rocker cover gasket replacement.
  • bushes replacement
  • s13 coilover set up
  • interior restoration
will update when i can. stay tuned.

Wise move doing the small paint jobs first, things like that make you look that bit harder when doing a roadie.
