Have been patrolling these forums for a while, doing as much research as possible. My name's Chris, 20 years old and I've gone through a whole lot of cars already!
I started off with a 1991 Honda Prelude Si-R (BB1) which was a bit of a show car (auto, eww), Orange metallic paint, white wheels, black bumpers and red leather interior. Only had this car for around 12 months before wanting to move to something a bit more performance orientated.
After that, I had a 1989 AE82 Toyota Corolla Twin Cam 4AGE which I owned for 4 years and effectionally got the nickname YotaRolla. Lowered on king springs and Mitsubishi 13's with Potenza's, it went and handled quite well! Unfortunately that got written off at Easter time thanks to wet roads and a wayward cat.
As you can see, I was also big into the BMX/Mountain Biking scene at this point.
Then proceeded to move on to a 1988 ED9 Honda CRX with a D16ZC and 5 speed close ratio box with aftermarket LSD. This was a lot of fun, high revving, super light and responsive but also very much a "Cop Bait" car with it's ridiculous bodykit and loud exhaust.
It was around this time that all my fines kept stacking up, being a red P-plater and at that time relying on my license for work. I even went to court 3 times to beat a couple of fines by "Knox Cop", which I failed to but went on to a 12 month Good Behaviour bond which meant I got to keep my license. So I sold my performance cars and went for something a little more subtle, 1991 Mitsubishi Lancer, complete with 4 speed auto!
And that's what leads me on to the S12. After driving around the Lancer and my Hiace Commuter Bus for 12 months or so, I was after something different and this time Rear wheel drive. The obvious choice would have been a Nissan S13 with SR20DE but then after patrolling evilBay, as one would do, I came across a 1984 Nissan S12 Gazelle live axle with the CA20E and 5 speed. This car has had in excess of $3000 spent (with receipts) of work done in the last 3 years. So after negotiating a purchase price, 5 of us made the 4 hour trek in a friends' BF Falcon to near Horsham. When we got there, initial inspection showed the car to be in better shape than first described. The two tone dark blue over light blue was something different that I really liked, and the pop up headlights... well we all know how cool pop up's are!
Unfortunately the car turned out to be a bit of a lemon, as when I was driving down the freeway the oil pressure guage dropped down to zero and the ticking from the exhaust manifold gasket became almost unbearable. Unbelievably, the car made the 300km trek without so much as a hitch. So it's currently parked at a friends' house until I can get down to drive it home.
I've decided that rather than bitch and moan about how things went wrong, to take the liberty to make it an ongoing project. Armed with a good bunch of mates, plenty of beer and a CA18DE, the completion date will be set for June 6th next year, my birthday.
