Early tunes weren't so great & the damage was probably started back then. Already has some more cast slugger back in it. Next one gets forgies.

The mad scientist & I went to put the frywheel back on & stripped a thread. Bugger. Lucky I have a spare Pinny CA20 one that's just happens to have a virtually new clutch and machined face. WIN!!

Engine is mostly back in & torqued up. Just the turbo, piping & wiring left to hook up. Redrilled rotors should turn up tonight so hopefully I can start & drive to tonight/tomorrow.

The new brakes work very, very well. I left the bias valve untouched for the first run - the rears were overworked & the front's barely warmed. 2nd run with a couple of turns closing off the rear brake line & HELLO!! I still didn't have much confidence though after putting it in the kitty litter in the first session (my first time in there at either Lakeside or QR)

I did have a few good drags off the line, most notable being able to keep up to the front door handles of a new EVO X from a standing start. The range of cars out there was brilliant - Porsche GT3 cup racer, Ferrari F360, loads of modified Dattos, 260Z, V8 Esky, a wild Torana (that could keep up to the GT3!!), etc.

Run 3 didn't go so well. At the end of run 2 I left it in 4th gear coming over the line to eek out another 10th and overstressed the new head gasket. Run 3 started with me losing a little power off the line & progressivly gaining less revs, but more smoke out the tailpipe untill lap 3 when she died coming out of Karosel & rolled down to Hungry, day done. A new HG & head bolts, she'll be fine.

The new track surface is fairly grippy & now nice & smooth. My best lap was a 1:04.5 which is marginally slower than my best last year (1:04.21). Clearly I have to grow my Lakeside balls again as the track is a good 2-3 seconds quicker now.

Next run is 5 April.

What sort of head gasket do you use Roger? Are you running the theory of weak headgasket = it blows before the cylinder pressures get high enough to blow your donk?

shame about the gasket but great that it's runnin' so well.
also impressive to be on par with your best time considering the time off.

good luck cutting down those seconds!
