Thanks guys. I am really happy with the car aside from this diff whine & some more suspension dev work. I've got a good target out on the track now - A Porsche 911 3.8 Cup R (280kW (381bhp), 415Nm, 3.8L, N/A). If I can beat him with slicks on I'll be very happy.

Epic build! Good to see the nice power output and results you are happy with WITH reliability.Candellan wrote:Thanks guys. The 911 has a freakin wide track, depending on the year they run semi trailing arms like our IRS gaz's (FR-RR challenge!) - are you going widebody to get the same kind of track? =) what suspension setup are you currently running - as per the spring rates thread, i'm interested in what y'all are using for track setups in these beasts.

I Have HSD Coilovers with 7KG springs. Kings low rear springs with Tough Dog 4x4 (hilux) rear shocks. Running all Super Poly bushes.
I am about to get a set of S13 LCAs and R31 radius rods.

Torque sensing diff, nice! Even more reason to not wanna lift a rear wheel under heavy corneringCandellan wrote:I Have HSD Coilovers with 7KG springs. Kings low rear springs with Tough Dog 4x4 (hilux) rear shocks. Running all Super Poly bushes.

What kind of settings are you running on the shocks?

All that torque is starting to cause the car some stress. Now the plated trailing arm mounts are groaning, the diff is noisy, the gearbox is dying slowly. Still it's nice to have some problems in an S12
The front shocks are about position 10 of 15. The rears are position 6 of 8. I did run the rears on 7 and even 8 but it lost too much traction coming out of corner 6 @ QR.

hang5, the DIFF is noisy? I thought the torsen worm gear jobbies weren't supposed to do such things?? I spose the crown/pinion and bearings could make noises after large doses of torque constantly.Candellan wrote:All that torque is starting to cause the car some stress. Is there enough clearance to go "true" 4 link on a solid axle gaz? I heard the idea tossed up previously, maybe by Brian?
Cheers for the shocker settings, it's nice to know what others are running in this chassis.
Matt.

In the diff I'd say it's the bearing, even though that's been replaced already. It may even be the type of oil I'm using (Penrite Hypoid 80/90) though it's strange that it started all of a sudden and isn't really getting worse.
There's enough room in front of the diff, but I don't think there's enough between the handbrake cable & the tank to fit something like a watts link or panhard rod. Also locating a pivot point or points strong enough in the right spots would be a problem. Having a closer look yesterday I'm wondering if it's not enough silicon greese on the poly bush. Rocking the car back & forth in gear produces the same noise I hear driving and I can't see anything moving. It'll be great if that's all it is. Time to become "greese monkey"......litterally.

i dont wanna hear about u n your bannana getting greesey

I've heard a guy is pulling 300kW atw through his Topgear Torsen H190 and has done for over a year without issues... so i would anticipate that the diff should be 100% a-okay.
