I would also like to know what head gasket you're using.

I'm still using a stock CA20 fibre head gasket as none of the big name companies make a CA HG with a 86.5mm bore. I'm told there is a company here is BrisVegas that can make up a metal one, but I'll stock with stockies for now. My issue may be that I used old head bolts again & they've stretched under reheating. New bolts are being machined down this week to remedy that problem as the bolt holes in the block are too short for stock CA18DET head bolts.

The results are in & I placed 2nd in class with the 1:04.52. Class leader was the S13 in the photo above with a 1:01.41. I'm pretty happy with that considering the problems I had.

I've always liked your car. very well built. AND you built a CA20DET, which in itself is amazing.

nice work man!!
just quietly, any particular reason you still have a passenger's seat? I woulda thought extreme stripping could shave a second off your lap time...?

Thanks guys.
I've still got most of the interior still in there, including the back seat uprights with steel backing, power windows, etc. Only the carpet, rear seat base & spare tyre/jack are out. I'll start stripping it once I have my garage space back, swapping for manual doors, fibreglass panels, etc all to come over time.

I made it to Lakeside again after blowing the ring lands of #4 piston this time & popping the head gasket. New ACL pistons are a vast improvement over the cheap crap I had in there, but I think they have a lower compression as the design of the top is quite different.
Latest Lakeside footage:
Lakeside 3/5/09 Session 2
Lakeside 3/5/09 Session 3
Lakeside 3/5/09 Session 4
In session 4 I'm following an Audi R8 V8. Very nice car, but not as quick as you'd think.
