Hi all,
After having no luck on club-s12.org, I have come to you for help (and the fact that there is more Australian and New Zealand owners on here).
I have just removed my CA20E. I removed the engine loom and ECU and am now in the process of installing a CA18DET from an S13.
The engine loom from the 20 unplugs from 2 different places from the cars electrics and I need to know where I join them into the 18 engine loom.

Posted Image
Where on the 18 loom do I join into the under dash electrics ?

Posted Image
And where on the 18 loom do I join into this plug inside the engine bay ?

If somebody could maybe copy these images and edit them with text or drawings showing what goes where would be fantastic.

Thanks guys

It's no simple task to wire up a CA18 into an S12.

That plug in the top right image goes to the instrument cluster in an S13. A few of these wires are useful for getting some of the standard guages running (Oil pressure, water temp), and one of them is the igniton switch feed to the ECU.

I believe ORANGE is the ignition switch?

RED would be constant power

BLACKS would be grounds

PURPLE?? is temp?

I wrote a long write up with diagrams and colours for doing this and posted it up.. only to have the forums crash a couple days later and when they were restored my write up was gone!
I haven't had the time nor enthusiasm to sit down and write it all out again!

Brad is on the money though. If you play with a multimeter you can find IGN SWITCHED and CONSTANT 12V power sources in the loom that goes down to the coil/distributor on the CA20 loom.
Also in that loom or somewhere on the passenger's side you'll find a LIGHT GREEN wire that's the wire leading to the TACHO - wire 4 diodes from the CA18 ignitor into this LIGHT GREEN wire for the tacho to work (there's a write up in the electricals section)
As Brad said - all else just cut out!

Fuel pump relay can be re-used if you just swap a couple wires around. Instead of supplying power to the pump (CA20 style) it is swapped around so it simply grounds it I believe for the CA18?

Thanks guys.

Have been trying to track down workshop manuals so I can get an ECU pinout diagram for each of the engines.
Failing that I also have a friend who works for a Nissan dealership who has been trying to track them down for me.
Nissan NZ is now waiting on the wiring diagrams to come from Nissan Japan for me :thumbsup_anim:

Once I have the diagrams I will post them on here

Thanks James.
Just to confirm - Is the CA20E diagram listed on club-s12 correct for Aus/NZ/Jap markets ? AS I was told the wiring was different on these and the American ones ?

I honestly do not know, but I would imagine the important wires are the same positions and colours.

Once you've got the CA18 pinout sussed, you will realised that you need only connect about 7 wires and it'll run. Probably 6 of which I think you'll find duplicated in that smaller dash plug.

USA stuff is a bit different.

As far as relays go, run new ones, and wire them up as per the S13 diagrams. Don't bother trying to re-wire the S12 ones.
