These are personal experiances based on personal dealings.
Aus12 takes no responsibility for all posts from here on.

Hey guys,
Most people out there find it hard to find someone to trust with their pride and joy.
Thought a list of workshops that might be helpful, or in contrast might want to stay away from could be composed here.
Cheers.

MORPOWER AUTO AND DYNO- Very clean workshop, Dyno seems to be pretty spot on, a few of the people dont know what there talking about but there are a few that do. $60 for 3 power runs with AFR checking etc. (comparison- Tilbrooks $70)

JAPANESE MOTORSPORT- Very helpful, will go out of their way to get parts etc when needed, Labour prices are pretty average.

GRAHAMEWEST DYNO CENTRE- Did my first set of dyno runs for my S12 in 3rd gear therfore wasnt happy with their work. Have been back there, and they are VERY helpful when looking at dyno charts etc, cheap and dyno seems calibrated well.

PROFIX MODBURY- Shocking communication, terriable workmanship, take way to long to get a simple job done, had several of my cars for 3 days and sometimes kept my car locked in over sunday without any communication to me saying this will occur. NOT RECOMMENDED!

If wreckers are on the list, everyone should have a look at Z imports when buying an engine.

The service is sh**, the guys knows nothing, and if your not careful he'll sell you a piece of sh** that wont work (bought a 1jz from there with a flywheel that had rust holes) but the prices are fu**ing amazing. Eg, $1100 for 1j, ecu loom and auto box.

i know that they are closed now but just in case
STAY THE F*#K AWAY FROM F.B.I (four brother imports)

exhaust tech is the way to go for your exhaust and intercoolers, great service and marky is a legend

ATS (adelaide turbo services) is also great as bill is the turbo professor
give him any turbo and he'll tell you exactly what its from and how it will perform with ur engine

Datsport are also awesome and as barry used to have a gazelle he knows shitloads about them

i have also found boostworx to be very good and thats were i take my car for all tuning needs

hope this helps

DrDrift - Sam is very good. In house dyno, good atmosphere, good to go and chat. Not expensive at all.

Turboworx - Good workshop, very helpful, not very expensive, not afraid to do custom work (ie wacky conversions).

even if you call it a shameless plug, i have to stick Mike and Christine from M&C Doyle crash in here for sure!

this guy has definately bent over backwards for me in every step i have taken towards completing my car!

he has spent the time to give me ideas as to what will look good and what wouldnt look as hot on my car. he even talks himself out of business by making me go and buy parts myself.

Mike an Christine have an amazing eye when it comes to colours and applying them to particular cars.

and the great thing is they share their honest opinion with you, they dont just agree with you, if they think its going to look average, they will say yeah no problems, but have you thought about this instead.

They have been in the business a very long time, and when it comes to perfection, not too many people come close to these guys!

10 star rating for them!

and dont just take my word for it!, just look at their workshop!, its packed to the point that they have cars spilling out of their ears!

Oh, prices are very competitive, i dont think theres many other workshops i would trust to apply my paint flawlessly!

Sprint Auto Parts Pt. Adelaide. - See ben, he's the store manager and knows a world of usefull tech crap so he will always be able to help you out and if not be able to point you in the right direction. They are good people down there, used to work for 'em and know what goes on. Genuine family business with genuine people and a massive range of good parts available backed up by a good warantee.

Boostworx - Since getting my new car (series 5 rx7) havent taken it anywhere else. Shaun, the owner is always willing to give his honest opinion and not many mechanics will do that. The pricing is competative and the work is outstanding. Good blokes down there at boostworx that do good work.

REVS (rotary engine vehicle specialists) - not that many people have rotaries but this is the place to take your car if you do. I would be taking it here if he (Jason the owner) and the business wasnt located at pooraka. Really good work, trustworthy mechanic and rotary only workshop with 10 years in the business experience.

Wheelworx - havent had any work done by them but they seemed more than happy to do me a good deal on a wheel and tyre package and had time to look into what suited and doesen't suit the car at hand. Great customer service by lyndo.

Now on to the bad ones.

Graham West Workshop. - although they have a 4WD dyno that doesnt make them a good workshop. A good mate of mine, Muges, from another car club had them assemble his sr20 for his s14. They farked up and the engine spun a main bearing and one of the valves bent in the proccess. Then they proceeded to charge him to dismantle the engine to find out what THEY had done wrong. Not only that but my family used to use them when we had our VL. They farked the brakes up on them, they left a caliper bolt loose and the pads wore shockingly, they used the wrong pads and the rotors were not machined. The services weren't very good either, they missed quite a few saftey points. Next, my next door neighbour's mate has a datsun 1600 with an L20 in it. He booked it in for a dyno run and tune as it hadn't been run in a while and then they cooked the engine by not checking the vital things such as oil level, coolant level and so on before the dyno run and then proceeded to tell him that it was his fault and then they tried to charge him for there time and services.
I certainly am not happy with this workshop. They cook motors, charge like a wounded bull, know buck all about mechanics and have 3 mechanics, 4 aprentices working (as stated by graham west on the GSR dyno day). If they cant even look after a VL what chance do they have at looking after your pride and joy. - not recommended.

Nisswreck. - again as someone else said on here their prices are skyhigh and they know buck all about mechanical things relevant to your car. Not recommended

I have a few more but I will post them up later on. thats all for now - grr, let some steam off.

I think this thread is a good idea, however, at the same time it is something that may come back and bite us in the behind!

its fair enough that we are reccomending reputable businesses, however, coming straight out and saying bad things about another business can only make you enemies!

why go bad mouthing someone's business? the title of this thread is and i quote " Recommended Workshops, Who do you recommend?" so why put in workshops you dont recommend?

it may give this site as much of a bad reputation as a good one! Some of the business owners may come on here for a browse, it is one thing to read that your business isnt rated highly, but its another to read someone bad mouthing it! this could also ruin any chances of possible approaches by such companies or associated companies for sponsership!

if you have a serious problem with a workshop, take it up with them, if they dont care, take it up with the ACCC!
