hey im dave. Im 17, in Tassie, and have brought myself a mint s12 :P

I got it 3 weeks ago now, and its taken me that long to read almost everything on here and club-S12 but now i've got the basics under control. My old man is a mechanic and ive been tooling round since i was little, and have an apprenticeship secured for when i finish school.

The car itself is an '85 live axle hatch with a CA20E. Always serviced by Nissan, everything is genuine, got all the logs for it. I'm the second owner, previous owner was an old lady and its only been used to get to the shops and church once a week. Also it is stock as.

Current 'Mods' hah
  • Dual Coil Mod
  • Remove RACT Lifetime Member badge
  • Advanced timing
  • Full detail on the exterior and interior
  • Yeah so i have been a little lazy.
Plans in the next 6 months or so
  • Fit my Momo steering wheel. Its from an EVO4, never used, but a normal S13 boss kit wont fit it (fits the car tho) as the wheel uses a 4 bolt design. Can you get these types of boss kit?
  • Debadge the rear end
  • Rims - 16x8 dished
  • Lowering springs and new struts. NEED HELP IN THIS DEPARTMENT. What do I use for enthusastic street??
  • Replace all the bushes with Nolathane.
  • JustJap seats. I have looked and figure i can just make a spacer block on the lower side of the S12 rail, to sit the seat flat. Im only 5'8" so the height shouldnt be a problem. Thoughts??
  • New black seat belts as one of the blue ones is frayed
  • New Mud Flaps. Who can help me out??
  • New RHS Park Light. Who can help me out??
  • New Bonnet Stand Clip. Who can help me out??
  • Pedals and Floormats.
  • Twin Thermo Fans. What can i use cheaply or from a wrecker? AU Falcon??
  • Pioneer Headunit (i guess i will make an mount to replace awesome old radio and tape player) Any ideas?
  • Jaycar 6.5" kevlar splits in the front
  • Jaycar 6.5" kevlar coax in the back
  • Jaycar 4x100WRMS amp
  • Optima YellowTop in the boot
Then in about 18months when I am doing my apprenticeship it will be prime for a CA18DET. Only reason i dont want to do it sooner is after that i probably wouldnt be able to afford fuel for it, and i dont think the suspension is up to it, as its very bouncy and soft at the moment, if you know what i mean.

So yeah, its not a bad bus.

65722-01F00 - Part number for the bonnet stand clip. Just go into Nissan, and hope that they will order one for you. It should be a fairly common part.

Can't help you with the mudflaps, or park light. Nissan doesn't make the park light anymore, and I don't think they'd make the mudflaps either. If I find a couple of mudflaps in amongst all my stuff, I'll let you know. I threw one out this arvo, as it was very rough, and had teeth marks in it, presumably from a dog.

If all else fails, call Latrobe Auto Wreckers (Tas), and speak to Colin. He might be able to help you out. Tell him Dean from AUS12 sent you.

In regards to anything else, just ask away. We should be able to sort you out.

Ahh sweeeet. Cheers fellas.
My mudflaps are all ripped off or completely missing, looks tatty and makes the car pretty dirty with out them. I know the wreckers, theyre about the only one left in our area of the state. Cheers dean.

Also i was wondering if there was a way to make my car run better when its cold. A lot of oldish cars, even ones in good nick like mine, does it but... When you start it cold, it wont idle, shakes the car, around, like its missing really badly, but its not afaik. And when driving while cold, the car lurches, surges and stutters at any rpm with any level of throttle. All this goes away when the car is up to temp. Any ideas??

Also the battery seems to lose the ability to deliver current overnight, and no lights or accessories are on, and yes i have checked the hatch light to make sure its not staying on. Thinking rooted battery, even though it is newish by the look of it. Got any clues?

I think thats all for now, im sure ill remember more later

Oh Nissan don't make/sell the parkers anymore. Sheeit I sold all my spares to the yanks, I better look around for a spare pair for myself, to cover stray rocks ,dings etc.

i have a set of mud flaps... but are getting rid of them to make way for the impul body kit:p

From what i know, most of them were just universal mud flaps.

If you'd like my dirty old set (not ripped), your welcome to it. I was going to sell it to one of the rally guys for $20... but never got back... So if you want it, it's all yours. Freight from Melbourne Shouldnt be too bad either.

Small Update, All free mods so far....

Mud flaps removed.
Seat belts fixed
Remove granny-spec sun shade clips from hatch glass. Painful job with +15yearold double sided industrial tape...
Door seals repaired.
Retard timing.
Blue number plate lights for that 'late model' look.
Advance timing again. Its currently at around 10deg BTDC. What is everyone else running?
'Hi-Flow' Stock airbox, now it goes PAHH like a pod filter :P
Fix dash clock, but then it stopped working again.
Wheels arrive on the 30th from Japan... expect to see them fitted some time after.
Stereo details sorted, Ordering all components in the first week of the new month.

ATTN: Need help figuring out what KYB Excel-G shocks to run in the back of my live-axle... To suit 2" lower Aurora's.

Cheers

With the timing, I advance mine until you can't wind it any further. By that stage, you'd need to run premium unleaded.

Clock? I've got 4 or 5 here. $10, and I'll post one to you.

For the rear shocks, use XE - EL Falcon sedan rears.

Cheers Dean. I think I will pass on the clock, and I have 'procured' a stethoscope and will hook some vacuum line up to a head bolt, run the vac line into the cabin and onto the stethoscope, then drive along and keep winding the timing in until it starts to detonate on 91 octane, then I'll just wind it back a few degrees and should be sweet :D

And for the clock, it will soon be removed and replaced with some electronical gizzmo :D
