I'm about to replace the original radio and all the speakers in my S12. But when I removed the back speakers, I couldn't find any indication which cable is negative and which one is positive. Any clues on what to look for color coding wise?

Thanks!

It wont matter the speaker will work either way (as long as they are both wired the same way).

See: http://www.madsci.or...44118.Eg.r.html

By "correct phasing", what's required is that all the speaker cones
move in the same direction when the source amplifier(s) apply a voltage of
a given polarity. This synchronization ensures that when the amplifier produces
a positive voltage, all the speakers compress the air in front of them. If
care is not taken in this regard, some speaker cones are compressing the
air while others are expanding the air -- effectively, the speakers are
working against each other.

As long as you chose a wire and stick to it itll work.

Sam.

Yeh I was thinking about it a little more and although the speakers will "work" apparently the sound stage will fruck itself because the rear speakers are out of phase with the front ones.

Try it both ways?

Sam.

The original speakers were actually marked, but barely visible! I've filled in the markings here for clarity:

Since I might want to be able to restore the car later, I decided to use the connector from the speakers to build my own speaker adapter.
Bend out the bottom tab:

De-solder the wires to the speaker:

The removed speaker connectors:

Just solder the new speaker wire to the old speaker connector and presto - finished original speaker to new speaker adapter:

If you look closely at the picture, you can make out the color coding of the original wiring.

And of course, just reverse the process to restore your car to it's original state.

Unfortunately, the budget speakers I bought actually sounded worse than the original factory fitted Clarions...

I had 7x10s in my main drift project for a while, when it was still registered all those years ago.

Subs suck in an S12 hatch, as it hampers all that practicality.

i just rewired my car audio, but im wierd... i also put in 300W splits into my car...

If your after a cheap decent pair of 6" speakers look at rogers, if u can get them through ur local strathfield, if not spend the extra $100 and get some of a brand names speakers from last year, last seasons stock will always sell a lil cheaper than the new stock, because they dont look the same as this years model, or have maybe 10w diffecence
