Hi My name is George, I live in geelong, have just started a mechanic apprenticeship and also inherited a 1984 gazelle from my grandparents. I have been told it was a jap import and it does have the fj20 motor. It has a been a bit knocked around but nothing major and it is not running too smoothly at the moment but it has not been driven much for the last 5 years or so. I am looking to build this car up during my apprenticeship and I will be in need of some advice and help getting parts and what not. Not really sure where i should start but i was goin to get the body cleaned up and it running properly first then i was thinking i will get the brakes and suspension upgraded before doing too much work on the engine. I will put photos up in due time and keep posting about what is happening if my bank balance allows.

Hi George, and welcome to S12Silvia.com!
Quite an interesting sounding car you have there by the sounds of it. The only real way to confirm if it's a JDM Gazelle or not is to have a look at the model number on the VIN plate. If you quote the number here I will be able to tell you what you have.
If it is a Gazelle import, you have a very rare car on your hands. The only other JDM Gazelle I know of is James' Gazelle RS-X.
Good move fixing up the body first I reckon. These cars respond well to suspension work as well, you should have enough power with the FJ to keep you happy for a while. There is plenty of information and write ups on the site on different suspension set ups.
Looking forward to seeing some pictures mate. You can upload them directly from your computer to the site here.
Feel free to post any more questions, there are plenty of members who will be more than willing to help you out.
Enjoy your stay!
Matt.

Depending on what you want to do with it, you have a great start.
Rally, circuit a competent streeter, will be good either way
