Just took off the head of my FJ20 and am wondering if this is normal. I mean the small dents in the pistons.

Or do I need to buy new pistons?

Thanks
Mark

By dents do you mean the 4 valve reliefs on the top of each piston? if so than its normal. they give clearance for the valves so they dont hit the pistons as the engine rotates.

Also when you assemble your FJ make sure you set the timing correctly because the FJ is a interference engine, meaning if you dont set the timing correctly you will bend valves and damage the engine. Good luck mate!
