Hey, I wanna weld my diff on my S12 that has a H190
Would it be abel to back the car up onto ramps, so that the rear is in the air.
Then I'm assuming I unbolt the driveshaft from the input yoke, then remove the... Bellhousing? whatever it is, the bell shaped doozy where the driveshaft attaches and has bolts all the way around it.
if I take that off will I have the space required to access all the spider gears enough to weld her up?
Or will I have to do more?

you will need to remove the entire centre from the car to get access to the spider gears.
jack the car up in the air, take off the wheels and the covers of the drums, then undo the 4 bolts that hold the axle in. then pop the axles out.
Next get under the car and unbolt the tailshaft, then undo all 10 bolts holding the centre in the housing, make sure you drain the diff first so you dont get oil everywhere. then completey remove the centre from the car. take to baench clean up oil and then weldaway. i put plates in mine that were chamfered to seat properly. then welded them in. put something in the axle splines so you dont get spatter in there.

Ah, so there difinitely is no lazy mans way?
Bugger!
Thank you so much for offering the best information I've ever had regarding this.
Searches reveal 20 page arguments of wether or not it is a good idea, nothing step by step, cheers.

Not with a H190,
if you could take the backing cover off it would be easy, we have done a few early rolla's like that *KE30 and earlier* we would just jack the car up remove the back cover and weld away, most of the times we would accdentlly weld the axles in but that didnt matter as when something broke we just replaced the lot and did it all over again. btw the car im refering to was a KE30 with an SR20DET :o unengineered and with all std brakes and suspension. (F@#k that thing was dangerous)

If your locking one up, try to do a diff centre out of a automatic car.
They have better ratio's
Even better is the center from a 720 diesel ute.
Weld the spider gears only. You get too much heat if you try to weld the whole center up.
Heat = warped noisey diff
Then put it in your housing.
It makes the job easier when ripping the whole diff apart, because you'll have a complete centre ready to go back in.

Check your axle code on the build plate. Should be HE37 for a 3.7 diff, or HE38 for a 3.9.

Also, next time you pull the centre out, count the teeth.

For the 3.7 it should have 37 on the crown wheel, and 10 on the pinion.

OR, 35 on the crown wheel, and 9 on the pinion for the 3.9

I believe that 720's have 4.56 gears in them, apparently 720's have an R200 in the front, and I'm thinking that a set of 4.5's would go very well under my car. Either that or it's Navara's and Pathfinders that have the R200 front diff, and I think they're either 4.11 or 4.56 depending on engine and gearbox combo's.

there is two threaded holes, i think its an M8 thread, just put some bolts in there and it will slowly come off.
remember to do them up evenly so it comes off straight. :)
