Full White in Full Glory

We love to see when S12s make the rounds on other sites for it shows that the interest in the S12 chassis is not only growing but also alive and well. No matter what condition or build stage one's S12 is in, to see other examples being featured on any site only feeds our passions, goals, and hopes that's within us all.

Just recently, Matt Castle was approached by another blog site hoping to feature his MKII RS-X Full White. One of the most rare S12s in existence, such an opportunity is not one that someone can ignore lightly. As an extensive restoration project with an amazing drive to renew his S12 to its former glory, Matt's Full White was long overdue and is well deserving of a feature blog out in the greater automotive community. However, this is most definitely not the end as Matt has much more in store for his S12 and we expect to see it around a bit more beyond that of S12Silvia.com.

Full White: Progress Report

Life is busy, and finding time to work on the RS-X lately has been difficult. However, over the past few months I have managed to get through an extensive list of things, so here is a progress report…

I fitted new brakes on all four corners, with new pads and some fresh fluid. A new lower control arm on the passenger side, and new ball joints. New tie rods, steering rack boots, CV boots, and clutch slave cylinder. Just about every boot and bush on the underside of the car have been replaced with new ones. The Nolathane bushes I posted about previously have all been fitted, albeit with some slight issues along the way. The rear trailing arm bushes did not fit, and we had to mix and match some bushes from a Ford kit to get them in. Also the rear sway bar mount bushes did not fit, I’m still on the hunt for something that will. Some new tyres have been fitted and the car received a much needed wheel alignment.

Needless to say, the car now drives like new, I had to drag myself away from driving it all day. All this work has been done to ensure the car passes all the required inspections. It is now ready for the compliance process to meet Australian Design Rules. This will inlude the installation of side intrusion bars, rear seatbelts, and rear child restraint points which needs to be completed and reported by an engineer.

It’s getting there, slowly. Not too much longer before this will be legal and registered to drive, I can’t wait.

Work Begins

Work has now started on Project RS-X. Wil and I spent most of Sunday doing bits and pieces on the car. A donor car supplied us with a fresh front guard to replace the RS-X’s rusted one, and a straight door to replace a slightly banged up one. A few other things were fixed up around the place, and we drilled and fitted MKI windscreen washer nozzles. An Xtreme heavy duty clutch has been installed, and new brake rotors are in ready for the car to pass roadworthy inspection. It’s all starting to happen!
