As we all have been aware as of late, there have been three significant natural disasters as of late. Each have been significant and of unseen magnitude in their geographical location. We here at S12Silvia.com hope that all those effected have a favourable result as time passes. Unfortunately as life would have it, not all things are favourable and the journey to a favourable result is one of incredible hardship. With great sadness and sincere concern, we dedicate a portion of our time and efforts to help spread the word about the recent disasters and how to help. We wish everyone the best with hearts full of concern.

Japan’s Earthquake and resulting Tsunami
March 11, 2011 a 9.0 earthquake struck off the coast of northeastern Japan (east of Sendai, Honshu) and caused a catastrophic tsunami with a magnitude that has not been seen before. Hundreds of aftershocks were registered with the largest at 7.4 and over five-hundred registering at 4.5 or more. With such violent force, both Japan and the world has been effected in a geophysical manner that few earthquakes have achieved causing possibly one of the largest recorded fault movements in history. It has been noted that Japan has moved east towards North America by 2.4m (7.9 feet). Not limited to just a significant change in the Pacific plate, but it is also said that the Earth’s axis has shifted 25 centimeters (9.8 in).
With efforts continuing today, it has been confirmed that there are 5.321 deaths, 2.383 injured, and 9.329 still missing. It is expected that the numbers are to significantly increase and casualties to be in the tens of thousands. Damages are noted at $100 billion after the earthquake, tsunami, and resulting fires and are increasing rapidly. With residential and commercial buildings wiped out, three of Japan’s nuclear reactors have suffered explosions causing an intensive evacuation of the surrounding areas for fear of a possible meltdown and has had a significant impact to the energy grid in Japan. Monday (14th) following the earthquake Japan’s Nikkei – 225 index fell 6.18% and continued to fall in the first few hours after opening on Tuesday (15th).
